Kindergarten Felt Collage

This was a 2 day project.  We decided as a class what our theme would be for the banner.  We chose the jungle.  Next, we brainstormed types of animals in the jungle.  Each kid signed up for one animal to make.  We cut these out of felt.  Next, I hot glued them on to a piece of burlap and green felt.  The kids also raided the fabric scrap box for extra details.

What kind of scissors do you have your kinders use that can cut felt. I always have a problem with kids trying to cut fabric, even with new school scissors!! This is really cute!

Thanks. For cutting fabric, you need to have a completely different set of scissors that is ONLY used for fabric cutting. We just purchased regular fiskars kids scissors (the regular point). The fiskars representative even told me this was the case. You just need any pair of fiskars scissors and then completely keep the away from cutting paper. Same thing with any paper cutting scissors-- they will become dull if you cut on fabric. It's like if it touches paper even once it will not cut on fabric the same after that. My kids had no problem cutting the felt. There was one piece of felt that was a lot thicker and furrier and they couldn't cut that, but regular felt was no problem. At the end of the period I just collect all the fabric scissors and stash them away in a secret spot. I also label them with "F" in permanent marker.
