kindergarten Primary color Mondrian design |
We did this project last week to introduce the primary colors-red, blue and yellow to the kindergartners. We looked at the artwork of Piet Mondrian and discussed his use of color-- primary colors + neutral black and white. We described the lines and shapes. The kids then made their own Mondrian-inspired artwork using construction paper shapes.

terrific collages! I'm always challenged figuring out what I want to do with my K's at the start of the school year.
Amen, Phyl - Kinders are the bane of my existence, and having gargantu-classes with no assistant makes it even worse. This is a GREAT idea that I will definitely be using. :) Thanks Marcia!
They look great. I do this every year (except last year!) and they all are fantastic. It's a really successful lesson and always let's me focus on the nitty gritty like how much glue to use, how to hold scissors without cutting your hand off, and introduce direction vocabulary like up and down, side to side and diagonal.
These look fun to make, I think my little ones could definately get into trying their hand at making artwork inspired by this artist.
