Contour Line Drawings of Shoes

 Contour Drawings  The students observed the details and lines on their shoes.  They completed a contour line study of their footwear.  Next, they turned these drawings into "miniature playgrounds" for stick people.  Contour drawing helps define and explore edges through line and locates one object in relationship to another. It also establishes an expressive and accurate representation of the subject by the richness of the lines, thick or thin, crisp or soft, and the speed and rhythm with which they are drawn. Contour drawing enables the artist to develop the illusion of volume through space and line.

Everything I Know About Monsters-- 2nd Grade

Tom Lichtenheld, an author and illustrator, will be visiting EAGLE School at the end of October.  To prepare for his visit, many of the classes will be seeing his art and listening to his books.  The Upper Primaries are focusing on his book Everything I Know about Monsters.  They are designing their own silly monster friend.

 

Easy LINE LESSON-- Kindergarten

This is an easy line lesson you can do tomorrow or with a substitute teacher.
Step one:  Draw lines in pencil across the page.  Make as many types of lines as you can... wavy, zigzag, straight, loopy, dotted, dashed, etc.
Step two:  Outline the lines in black marker.
Step three:  Color in other areas with marker or crayon.

Alphabet Art-- 1st Grade

1st Grade

The 1st graders experimented with balance and design.  They learned how letters and words could be used in art.  The art of Stuart Davis was shown and discussed.  To create this artwork, the students drew letters stacked, turned and scattered.  Letters were outlined in black marker and colored in with crayons or markers.  

4th/5th Grade Secret Cities-- Drawing in 3-d, shading

Secret Cities
The 4/5s learned  how to draw 3-d forms and include shading and shadows.  They stacked these shapes to make a "secret city".  

I got this idea from a book about drawing by Mark Kistler. 

This artist had a series of television shows that taught kids how to draw 3-d pictures step-by-step.  Here is a video of a "secret city" mural.
